Just a reminder that our concert at Vericon is in one week, on March 18th at 2:30pm. We'll be previewing a brand-new, 6-part piece that's unlikely to be performed again in 2012 - Vericon's your one chance to hear it!

If you haven't already registered, the cost of Vericon is $35 at the door ($25 for students). BUT, registration for Sunday alone (the day of the concert) is only $15 ($10 for students). Plus Sunday admission gets you the infamous MST3K as well as a new Dr. Who-themed charity auction. More about Vericon here.

Sassafrass will give a one hour concert at Vericon this year, on Harvard University Campus (Cambridge MA) Sunday March 18th, circa 2:30 PM (may move forward or back by half an hour).

We’re delighted to be able to return to Vericon, and scheduling and the whims of the airline-fare-setting gods mean that Ada, Matt and Alexa will be able to fly in and join the Boston Sassafrass group for an extra-large concert.

Our current planned set list (subject to change) includes “Ice & Fire“, “My Brother, My Enemy“, “Abandoned“, the new 3-part trio version of “A New World” (Frigg’s song), “Somebody Will“, and the debut of a very special new piece, part of the Sundown cycle, a recent composition which Ada hinted at in the fall. All we’ll say about it is that it’s in six part harmony and we’re racing to master it in time so we can give our Vericon friends a taste of what to expect when the complete Sundown launches in Spring 2013. In fact, given how hard it is to get enough of us together, this is likely to be the only performance of this piece in 2012. We hope you’ll join us and enjoy.

Hi folks,

Once again, Sassafrass Boston will be performing at this upcoming Arisia!

This year, there will be not one, but TWO concerts. The first one will be held from 8-10pm on Saturday, January 14th, 2012. This will be a joint concert: we will perform alternating sets and a few joint pieces with our friends Stranger Ways. Along with old favorites, the Sassafrass portion will feature the two latest songs from Sundown, “Abandoned” and “A New World,” both new to Arisia.

Additionally, from 6-7pm on Sunday, January 15th, we will be rejoining Stranger Ways for an encore concert. This is a shorter show that will reprise some selections from our Saturday concert, as well as possibly bringing back some old favorites that we couldn’t get to on Saturday.

You will need a membership for the convention to attend the concert. You can, however, purchase a day pass at the door for either date. For more information, visit http://2012.arisia.org.

We hope to see you there!

OVFF was great! It was wonderful to meet so many new people. We're honored to have gotten the chance to perform in the Pegasus Award nominations concert. Congratulations again to all the winners!

We also recorded our performances from the concert. Here's the live recording of My Brother, My Enemy:

Also, we just revealed our new website! You can access it here. As you can see, it's updated to reflect who's in the group now and what we're currently working on. It's also got a blog with announcements about new pieces/recordings and concerts. Plus, we've got links to full-length streaming samples of all of our songs, new song pages with commentary, and links to buy all of our music online. Go check it out!

Hi everybody!

Our next album Sundown is in the works with several new songs in progress. We'd like to make everything about it high in quality to make it as enjoyable as possible to own when we finally release it, from good sound engineering to a detailed insert booklet.

Production costs on all these things will run higher than on our older CDs, and it will take a while to get everything right. Meanwhile, to lower the cost of the finished product by raising money for it in advance, as well as to give those who would like to have them some nifty options for Sassafrass- and Sundown-related items, we're considering making a few designs for release on made-to-order objects in an online store.

We'd love to have your feedback! Here are a few questions:

1. Would you prefer to order from Zazzle or Cafe Press?

2. Would you prefer a Sundown-themed stein, coaster, magnet, button, bumper sticker, or something else entirely?

3. Please tell us anything you'd really like to have on an object, whether it's a stylized version of a particular lyric, an image related to a particular myth in one of our songs, or anything you can dream up!

Thanks!
Zara

The DC-area branch of Sassafrass extends a big thank you to everyone who attended our Conterpoint concert! We had a great time, and it was awesome to hear everyone singing along.

The entire con* was a lot of fun, from performing to hearing others perform to open filk to chatting with so many friends old and new. We hope to see you again soon!

*with the exception of minor food poisoning on Saturday, which necessitated the schedule shift that put our concert at 7 instead of 3
